The draw for the UEFA Champions League set up some interesting fixtures for the league phase. PSG will be hoping to defend their title after an impressive 2024/25 campaign.
Recent former winners such as Manchester City, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Bayern Munich will hope to get their names back on the trophy, while the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool and Arsenal will also be among the pre-tournament favourites.
The competition adopted a new league phase instead of the previous group stage concept, and now each side plays eight games against two teams from each of the four allotted pots.
Real Madrid will face Liverpool at Anfield in a repeat of last season's group stage, while PSG and Barcelona will reignite their recent rivalry. With 36 teams in the competition, there are some interesting storylines beyond the games.
Paul Pogba, who recently moved to AS Monaco, will face his former side, Juventus, in the league phase. The Frenchman spent two spells with the Turin side, the latter of which ended poorly and included a lengthy ban that led to a four-year suspension.
Trent Alexander-Arnold will also make a return to Anfield with Real Madrid after a highly-publicised exit from his boyhood club, while Kevin De Bruyne will likely receive a hero's welcome when he returns to The Etihad with new side Napoli.
