Things are going from bad to worse for the Red Devils this season. After a winless start to the English Premier League season, they were uncharacteristically dumped out of the EFL Cup on penalties at the hands of League Two side Grimsby Town.
As Ruben Amorim scrambles to find a way to turn things around, one player has reportedly told the club he wants to leave as he is unhappy with his current situation within the team.
According to The Daily Mirror, Kobbie Mainoo wants to leave the club on loan in search of regular minutes as he has one eye on the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
This comes after Mainoo started the first two Premier League games on the bench. While the 20-year-old does not want to leave the club on a permanent deal, a loan move would allow his game to grow and remaining on the bench would not fulfil that.
While Mainoo wants to play more football, the club have reportedly told him they have no plans to sanction his loan. Instead, the 20-time league champions made it clear that the academy graduate is valued highly, and they expect him to fight for a spot in the first team.
Further reports suggest Man Utd would reluctantly sell the England international if a suitable offer was made, as his sale would boost the club's PSR situation.
After missing the game against Fulham last weekend, Amorim was asked why he chose not to play Mainoo, and he said the youngster still needed to prove his worth.
"The same as any player in that position, I expect a lot from Kobbie Mainoo," he said.

"Again, people think that sometimes you need to just give... I think it is important for Kobbie to fight for his place. I believe a lot in Kobbie, more than what everyone thinks. I believe a lot in Kobbie. I expect a lot from him. He is playing in one position and is fighting with Bruno. They can play together," Amorim added.
