In last season's quarter-final tussle between the two heavyweights of European football, it was the west Londoners who crashed out of the Champions League in dramatic fashion courtesy of a Karim Benzema header.
Los Blancos would go on to defeat two more English sides, Manchester City and Liverpool, en route to capturing their record 14th European title, but while the Blues have endured a poor 2022/23 campaign to date, Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic insists the squad is ready to avenge their defeat from last season.
"It seems like we have played them every year I have been here so it is a big team, we are excited, have beaten them in the past and are ready for the challenge," the United States of America international told Chelsea's official website.
"It could have gone either way for sure [in last season's defeat].
"We want some payback and hopefully beat them. You have to beat some good teams if you want to win the Champions League so we are ready for it.
"We are a confident team, we know we have good enough players to do some damage in this competition."

Interestingly, the six-time Premier League champions were the last side to eliminate Los Blancos from Europe's premier club competition, when they thwarted a Zinedine Zidane-led Real on their way to capturing their second Champions League title in the 2020/21 season.
