Jose Riveiro is reportedly interested in signing a defender who was instrumental in the elimination of Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League for Al Ahly.

Earlier this week, the Spaniard took charge of his first match as Al Ahly boss, as the Egyptian giants faced Mexican side Pachuca in a friendly ahead of their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup.
The match ended in a 1-1 stalemate, but the Central Americans would go on to win the encounter on penalties, triumphing 5-3 in the shootout, with Omar Kamal missing the decisive spot-kick for Ahly.
According to Al Jarida, not only was the 49-year-old displeased with the defender’s penalty, but he was also not satisfied with his overall capabilities in both defence and attack. After the match, it is understood that he met with club officials to make this sentiment abundantly clear and emphasised the need to reinforce this area.
The same report claims that one of the players he feels can address this issue at a high level is Pyramids FC right-back Mohamed Chibi. Riveiro is extremely familiar with the 32-year-old’s qualities, as it was his crosses from the flank that caused havoc for Pirates during the Champions League semi-final second leg.
Chibi also provided an assist in the second leg of the competition’s final, as the Egyptian side defeated Sundowns to claim their first-ever African championship.

It is believed that Riveiro values his ability to deliver pinpoint crosses, make explosive runs, and win defensive duels. He would reportedly like the club to sign him, but given that Chibi signed a contract extension last year on a deal which runs until 2028, prising him away from Pyramids may prove difficult.
