With Emile Witbooi being of interest to Chelsea, a former Blues academy youth product Dean Furman has offered advice to the starlet should he make the move to west London.

Earlier this year, the Cape Town City starlet went on trial with the two-time European champions as he continues to build his profile. That brief stint in the English capital was followed by a good showing at the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, as Chelsea — along with many other European sides — continue to track his development.
Witbooi is too young to make the official move to London according to FIFA rules, but once he turns 18, it could come to fruition. A former Cobham alumnus, Furman has offered some advice to the Amajimbos talisman should the move to the Premier League giants transpire in the future.
“I think the biggest thing that I learned from my time at Chelsea was learn off the best,” the Cape Town-born midfielder told Soccer Laduma.
“I think Chelsea is the perfect place to learn and when I was a young boy, the two people I looked up to were Frank Lampard and John Terry. Just to see how they train, how they conduct themselves, how they’re in the gym, how they’re doing their extras after training to try and improve.
“That’s something that’s stuck with me throughout my whole career, the fact that they were two of the best players in the world throughout their careers but they were always working on their games to get better.
“That’s something I always took on. I always wanted to improve, always wanted to work on my game and always try be the best I could be, so that would be my advice to him (Emile).”

“Learn off the best, ask them questions. One of the things I wish I did a bit more was ask more. I should’ve asked more questions like, ‘How’d you do this?’ ‘What did you do in this situation?,’ and ‘How do I get better with this?’ Those are maybe the things I didn’t do, which I wish I did, so I think you’re in an elite environment, I think there is such fantastic learning opportunities to make yourself a better player.”
