Sassuolo striker Federico Di Francesco has finally spoken out about the spitting incident involving himself and Douglas Costa amid claims he racially abused the Juventus star.
Juventus Star Receives Ban After Spitting Incident
Costa was sent off in the closing stages of the Bianconeri's 2-1 win over Sassuolo after replays showed him spitting on Di Francesco.
The Brazil international – who has since been banned for four league games – has already apologised to his club and teammates, but not to the Sassuolo forward, who was accused of provoking Costa by Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri.
However, Di Francesco has now released a statement denying he spewed racial abuse towards Costa on Sunday.
"I am profoundly upset by the allegations and the inventions which have appeared on various national media outlets," the Sassuolo winger said, according to FourFourTwo.
"All of this is offensive and denigratory. I will not allow racist behaviour and/or phrases that do not pertain to my values and ethics, and that are fruits of the imagination of others, be attributed to me.
"I ask for and demand respect."
