The 30-year-old has endured an incredibly difficult 12 months, after leaving Manchester United as a free agent last year to return to Juventus in Italy.

Fitness issues and off-field family matters disrupted what was supposed to be an exciting return to the Bianconeri for the 2013 Golden Boy winner as he managed to make just 10 appearances across all competitions in the 2022/23 campaign.

As a result of his injury problems, Pogba was forced to miss the 2022 FIFA World Cup, four years after he helped inspire his Les Bleus colleagues to triumph in Russia.

Speaking this week about whether or not the midfielder could potentially return to the fold in the future, Deschamps seemed to imply it was possible if Pogba could get back to his best.

"Yes, potentially yes. But he is coming from such a complicated year, between injuries and extra-sporting problems, that he has to find his bearings again," he told L'Equipe.

"I'll talk to him, of course, but his recovery time is indefinable. He has to do training, then outings, then games and his body has to resist.

"I only want Paul in the team if he really is Paul. But I think he can come back, he has the mind and the ability to do it."
