Spanish giants Real Madrid have reportedly made contact with a European club regarding the availability of one of their strikers.

The 14-time UEFA Champions League winners are expected to move for a new forward in the coming transfer window, with Mariano Diaz tipped to leave the club as a free agent.

Karim Benzema has reportedly decided he will continue at Los Blancos until June 2024, after his previous contract in Spain was set to expire at the end of this campaign.

Diaz's likely departure means the Spanish giants will only have 18-year-old Alvaro Rodriguez as a back-up option to Benzema, who has missed a significant amount of matches this season due to injuries.

To avoid this, Fichajes reports that Real have been in contact with Serie A side Atalanta regarding young forward Rasmus Hojlund, a left-footed striker who has earned comparisons to Manchester City's Erling Haaland.

Many teams from around Europe are believed to be monitoring the 20-year-old, who scored five goals in two starts for Denmark in the most recent international break.

It is reported that the striker is valued at about €35 million (R698 million), with it unknown as to whether or not the LaLiga side will actively pursue a move for the talented Dane.

Hojlund joined Atalanta from Sturm Graz in August last year, and has since contributed to 11 goals in 28 appearances for the Serie A side.
