LaLiga Chief 'Makes Decision' On Messi's Barcelona Return

The president of LaLiga has confirmed his stance on Lionel Messi's potential return to Barcelona at the end of the season.

Paris Saint-Germain's No. 30 has been linked with a move back to the Blaugrana, the club he scored 672 goals for between 2005 and 2021.

The Argentine's current contract in France will expire in June amid rumours the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner is still far from reaching a new agreement with the Ligue 1 leaders.

It is claimed that Messi, 35, is open to returning to Barcelona as a free agent for the 2023/24 campaign, but his former club's financial issues will make it difficult for a deal to materialise.

LaLiga's strict financial rules are expected to complicate matters for the Spanish giants, with league president Javier Tebas confirming those rules will not be altered to suit Barca.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Tebas indicated that, while he would like to see Messi back in Spain, the Catalans have a lot of work to do before it can happen.

"As of today, no, but there is a lot of time left. We are waiting for their (financial fair play) viability plan (for next season)," he said, according to ESPN

"I hope they can make the necessary moves to make space for Messi to come in, but of course we are not going to change any rules for Messi to sign. Barca can make moves; they sell players.

"That's what we hope happens because I am a fan of Messi and I would like Messi to play in our league. But we won't change any rules. It is complicated, but I think they have the capacity to do it."
