The Manchester native is enjoying the most prolific season of his career to date, having bagged 29 goals in all competitions, and with the 25-year-old entering the last year of his contract at the Theatre of Dreams, the record Premier League champions are keen to once again tie him down for the long term.

According to The Telegraph, there is good progress on the negotiation front, with United expected to offer Rashford a deal worth £375 000 (R8.6 million) a week, which would make the attacker the highest-paid player at the club alongside David de Gea.

Talks are said to be headed in the right direction, news that will delight the club's fanbase given that the likes of Paris Saint-Germain are keen to pounce on the England international.

Manager Erik ten Hag has lauded the in-form striker on many occasions this season, perhaps suggesting that the United academy graduate is an integral part of what he is trying to build in the north-west of England.

The same report claims that the Dutchman's vision for the club also includes pairing Rashford with an elite No. 9, with Harry Kane strongly linked.

Like Rashford, the 29-year-old's current deal at Tottenham Hotspur expires at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, and United want to capitalise on that having made him their top transfer target for the upcoming window.

The London native will, however, not come cheap, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy reportedly set to place a £100 million (R2.7 billion) price tag on their talisman.
