Last week, it seemed that British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe was in pole position to become the man to takeover the club.

The Glazer family put United up for sale in November 2022, but Ratcliffe is rumoured to have only bid for a 60% stake in the English giants, with the view of the the current American owners retaining a stake.

However, that offer seems to have not been enough, with a Qatari outlet Al-Watan claiming that Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani has been chosen as the successful bidder for the Mancunians.

It was Jassim who was going up against Ratcliffe to control the English side and once news emerged that the 70-year-old was leading the race to become the new United majority shareholder, the Qatari banker submitted a massive last minute £6 billion (R120 million) bid to take sole ownership of the club.

The outlet which has reported the news is reportedly owned by the Qatari banker's father and former prime minister of the country, Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, and it claims that 44-year-old has successfully acquired a deal take charge of the the 1998/99 treble winners with an announcement expected soon.
