The Englishman secured a £30million (R724 million) to Chelsea after an impressive season at Ipswich. Despite their relegation, Delap scored 12 goals in 37 English Premier League games.
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca declared Delap a 'future England number 9' upon his signing and admitted he was a player they liked.
"He knows exactly what we can give him, and I know what Liam can give us," Maresca said on the official Chelsea website.
He added: "When we faced Ipswich, when Liam wasn’t a Chelsea player, I said that for me, he can potentially be England’s No.9. That was when he wasn’t even with us. For sure, now he is with us, I will say again I don’t have any doubt he can be a future England No.9."
According to Daily Express, the 22-year-old revealed why he chose to snub a move to Manchester United, who also held strong interest in him.
Delap said he wanted to make the transfer decision 'with a clear mind' and revealed he spoke to his former Manchester City academy teammate Cole Palmer who helped him make his final decision.
"I asked him what I needed to ask him, he told me what I needed to know,” Delap said. "But I don't like too much information. Ultimately, it was my decision so I kind of just want my head to be clear."
Delap revealed he hoped to follow in Palmer's footsteps and replicate his success in London.

"Yeah, of course, that's the goal. I think we both had similar positions and he's gone and smashed it so hopefully I can also," he said.
