The Spaniard has been on a rapid ascent ever since making his debut for Blaugrana as a 15-year-old. Two years have passed since Xavi Hernandez gave him his first LaLiga minutes, and the teenager has since gone on to be regarded as one of the best footballers on the planet.
This season, he has produced incredible numbers, scoring 18 goals and providing 25 assists in 54 appearances, as the Catalan giants won a domestic treble by claiming LALIGA, the Copa del Rey, and the Supercopa de Espana.
With the Ballon d’Or ceremony set to be held on 22 September 2025, the Barcelona native is also believed to be a frontrunner for the prestigious award — which would make him the youngest winner of the gong, and the first Barça star to win it since Lionel Messi in 2019.
According to Goal, via Memorabilia1899.co, the Spanish giants now believe Yamal has reached the level of maturity that warrants him being handed the number 10 shirt — the jersey Messi made so iconic.
The number is currently worn by Ansu Fati, and it remains to be seen whether he will stay at the club, having been plagued by injuries in recent years. However, the same report states that Yamal — his compatriot and fellow La Masia graduate — will now be given the number regardless of Fati’s situation.

It is alleged that the shirt will be handed to him after his 18th birthday, which will coincide with the young superstar signing a new contract — one that will include a €1 billion release clause.
