This past off-season, the Frenchman made his long-awaited move to Los Blancos, joining on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain.
While Los Blancos had a disappointing campaign by their standards — winning only the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Intercontinental Cup — the Bondy native enjoyed yet another prolific season, scoring 42 goals in all competitions for his new club.
He not only won the European Golden Shoe, but also shattered Ivan Zamorano’s record for the most goals scored by a Real player in their debut season.
At PSG, he played off the left flank, but in Madrid that position is occupied by Vinícius Júnior, so he led the line in the Real attack, becoming the latest Frenchman to play as a striker for the record European champions after Karim Benzema.
He also inherited the Lyon native’s number nine shirt upon arrival, following in the footsteps of legends such as Ronaldo Nazario. But according to El Chiringuito, Mbappe now has the opportunity to don yet another iconic number at the club.
