Pyramids Coach Praises Sundowns After CAFCL Final

Pyramids FC coach Mohamed Nagy Gedo is wary of the threat posed by Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of the CAF Champions League second leg.

The two sides will have it all to play for when they meet in Egypt for the second leg on 1 June after playing out a 1-1 draw at Loftus Versfeld last Saturday.

The Sky Blues were lucky to come away with a draw after netting a stoppage-time equaliser. Gedo was full of praise for Masandawana following the first leg, Sport El Watan reported.

"Thank God, the draw in South Africa is a positive result, but the tie hasn’t been decided yet," Gedo said.

"There’s still the return leg in Cairo. Sundowns are a strong team, good at playing away from home, and capable of scoring on the road.”

The coach revealed what his side's approach would be for the second leg as the club chases their first continental title.

"Pyramids don’t rely on defending, whether at home or away. We always aim to impose our style and be the dominant side in every match, whether it’s against a strong or weak opponent," Gedo said.

He also revealed that the Sky Blues would honour their final league match against Ceramica Cleopatra after their postponement request was denied.

"We requested a postponement of the crucial league match against Ceramica due to the short time before the return leg against Sundowns," he said. "We were hoping the league association would cooperate with us, but unfortunately, the request was denied.”

He concluded: "The league sent an official letter rejecting the postponement, so we will play the Ceramica match on Wednesday and then face Sundowns on Sunday. We’ll deal with the situation as it is and aim to get the best possible results in both matches."
