12 Clubs Stripped Of World Champions Crown

FIFA announced that 2025 FIFA Club World Cup winners Chelsea are now the only team who revealed to be world champions, stripping 12 clubs of their world champion status.

Chelsea were crowned as Club World Cup champions after dismantling UEFA Champions League winners PSG 3-0 in the final.

It was the first time the competition was played under the new 32-team format, as all previous editions were either played with six or eight teams.

The new competition replaced the old FIFA Confederations Cup, which was played as a precursor to determine whether a country was fit to host the next year's FIFA World Cup.

Following Chelsea's victory in the final, FIFA announced in a social media post that The Blues were the first-ever Club World Cup champions.

This decision seemingly confirmed that all previous 'Club World Cup' winners were no longer considered World Champions, instead referring to them as the "Intercontinental Champions", according to Daily Mail.

Among the teams to be affected are record five-time winners Real Madrid, who will now add to their 2024 FIFA Intercontinental Cup win.

20-time English champions Manchester United and Liverpool were stripped of their 2008 and 2019 titles, respectively, while Chelsea also lost their 2021 title.
