In a few weeks’ time, Ka Bo Yellow will compete in the FIFA Club World Cup for only the second time in their history, as they jet off to the United States of America to play Bundesliga juggernauts Borussia Dortmund, Brazilian titans Fluminense, and South Korean heavyweights Ulsan HD.
When they were last at the global spectacle, it was Korean opposition that eliminated them, having come up against Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors. At the upcoming edition of the competition, they will face a team from the same nation once again.
Ulsan head coach Kim Pangon has stated that defeating Masandawana will be imperative if they are to make it to the Round of 16.
“As a team representing Korea and Asia, we’re under pressure to perform well against clubs from other continents,” he told FIFA’s official website.
“I believe advancing to the Round of 16 is crucial, and our first match against Mamelodi Sundowns will be key. After that, it will be important to narrow the gap and pick up points against Fluminense and Borussia Dortmund.”
Ulsan will be one of four Asian teams competing in the United States of America, alongside Al Hilal, Urawa Red Diamonds and Al Ain, but Pangon is hoping that their strengths as a continent will shine through so they can make an impact.

“In international tournaments like the World Cup, Asian teams have often faced many challenges,” he added.
“We may encounter such difficulties this time as well. However, if we can capitalise on the speed and technique of Asian football, we’ll be able to be competitive.”
