The Spanish tactician suffered his first loss as head coach of the Club of the Century after Palmeiras beat them 2-0.
After a goalless first half, the Red Devils conceded twice in the opening 15 minutes of the second stanza and now sit at the bottom of Group A.
A member of the club’s executive committee, Hossam Ghaly, claimed that the former Orlando Pirates head coach should have analysed his players better going into the second 45 minutes, considering the physical demands of the first half.
"Whoever watched the first half didn't expect the game to end like this at all. Al Ahly were the relatively better side and appeared in an orderly manner for most of the first half of the match,” he told MBC Egypt.
"There was supposed to be a clear scenario from the coach for the second half, because the physical rates of the players would have dropped of course, and this is something that must be taken into account.
"The technical staff had to prepare alternative elements capable of maintaining the same level or providing physical and technical addition in the second half of the match, but this did not happen optimally.

“However, I excuse the coach, because he has not yet fully recognised all the players, and it came at a very difficult and short time, and there are a number of players who joined the team late, which makes it difficult for him to evaluate and make appropriate decisions in such big matches."
