Mamelodi Sundowns will be South Africa’s sole representative in this iteration of the global spectacle and, while they may have a large contingent of Bafana Bafana internationals, there is another national team star also present at the competition.
Tunisian juggernauts Esperance are also part of the newly expanded tournament and, consequently, so is Mokwana.
The explosive winger signed for the Blood and Gold prior to the commencement of the 2024/25 campaign, marking an incredible rise in his career given that he was playing in the ABC Motsepe League only three years ago.
Now, he is gracing the Club World Cup stage with Tunisia’s most successful side. However, his first experience at the competition was not a pleasant one, as his team succumbed to defeat in their opening Group D encounter.
Mokwana believes that although they lost, they have learnt from the match and have the capabilities to progress to the Round of 16.
“I think we’ve learnt a lot from this game and we’ll take that confidence to the next game,” the forward said, as per Lorenz Kohler.
“The tournament has only just begun and I guess we’ll just have to work hard in the next two games and hopefully we’ll qualify.
