For the Red Castle, the 2024/25 campaign has officially concluded. The record Moroccan champions’ season was extended as they were one of four African sides competing in the FIFA Club World Cup.
At the global showpiece, the North African giants had two South Africans in their squad — Mailula and Thembinkosi Lorch, who donned the famous red and white. While Lorch joined the club halfway through the season, his compatriot was there from the start of the campaign.
Both players signed on loan, and now it is alleged that Wydad are keen to secure their services on permanent deals. Following their final Club World Cup match against Al Ain, the Toronto FC loanee revealed that he would be open to prolonging his time in Casablanca.
"It would be great to be here next season too," the 24-year-old said, as per Achtari 24.
Before making a definitive decision on whether to return to the three-time African champions, however, the Bafana Bafana international admitted he needs time to consider his next step.
“I love Wydad and I love Morocco. They took care of me, but it’s time to return to my family and think about my future.”
Mailula did manage to find the back of the net at the newly expanded Club World Cup in the United States of America. However, his club endured a dismal tournament, losing all of their matches. The young attacker expressed his disappointment at the team’s performances and issued an apology to the club’s supporters.
“We played as a team and performed well, but we could have done better. We learned a lot from this competition,” the former Mamelodi Sundowns man added.

“If we had a real pre-season, the performance would have been completely different.
"We apologise to the fans because we did not achieve the expected results, but the players put in a great effort, and it was not easy.”
