At the top of the list of major threats for the Ka Bo Yellow defence is Guinea international and serial goalscorer Serhou Guirassy. Only three players in all of Europe’s top five leagues scored more goals than the 29-year-old forward in all competitions.
He found the back of the net a total of 34 times, and not only is he lethal aerially and when the ball comes to feet in the box, but his ability to hold up play and link up with his wide attackers is another attacking outlet the team could capitalise on.
Regarding wide players, one of the most potent is Julian Brandt. While his fellow wide man and compatriot Karim Adeyemi is dangerous due to the runs he makes in behind opposition defences, Brandt picks up the ball in front of the backline in the half-spaces, looking to play in forwards and midfielders making late runs into the box.
He is well known for his vision and ability to pass the ball in tight areas, and will be someone a player like Teboho Mokoena will need to keep a close eye on.
While Guirassy and Brandt will need to play big roles in helping the Yellow and Blacks find the back of the net, Dortmund beating Sundowns will also be contingent on keeping the opposition out. Fortunately for the Bundesliga outfit, they have perhaps one of the best shot-stoppers in the world in Gregor Kobel.
