The 10 Fastest Players In The Premier League This Season

Only one African star is among the 10 fastest players of the 2017/18 Premier League campaign so far, and there are one or two surprise names among them.

Opta Sports and talkSPORT recently teamed up to analyse the fastest players in England's top flight this season, and explained their calculations as follows: "The speed in kilometers per hour (km/h) for a given frame is based on the previous 15 frame-to-frame speeds.

"Out of the 15 frame-to-frame speeds, the four highest and the four lowest values are discarded and the result is an average of the remaining seven values."

Manchester City's Leroy Sane sits at the top of the ranking, having recorded a top speed of 35.48km/h. The Citizens winger was just slightly faster than second-placed Crystal Palace left back Patrick van Aanholt, with 35.42km/h.

Tottenham Hotspur's Moussa Sissoko follows, somewhat surprisingly, in third place with a top speed of 35.33km/h.

While we would expect the likes of Theo Walcott, Kyle Walker and Wilfried Zaha, who is the only African among the speediest players, in the top 10, there is another surprise in Arsenal's 32-year-old centre back Laurent Koscielny, who is in 10th spot with a top speed of 35.11km/h.

The ageing Gunners defender beat the quickest sprints of the likes of Jamie Vardy (11th), Hector Bellerin and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (joint 13th), as well as Mohamed Salah (18th) and Sadio Mane (19th).
