The Belgian has earned plaudits across Europe for his performances in midfield for City this season, a position from where he has contributed to nine goals to 11 games.
The player's agent. Patrick De Koster recently suggested that he will be in talks with the club over a new deal for his client, who is said to be on £160 000 (R2.87 million) a week.
"In the coming months, I'll meet with City to figure out how to improve and extend his contract," he said, as quoted by The Sun.
"His salary? I cannot say. But if you think what Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are being paid, you can picture."
De Koster's comments could be interpreted in a way that seems his client could become the highest earning player in England, as Neymar gets £534 000 (R9.4 million) a week at Paris Saint-Germain.

De Bruyne has been in excellent touch since joining the Citizens in 2015, assisting 44 goals and scoring 25 times.
