English Premier League
Result: Watford 2-1 Arsenal
Date: 14 October 2017
Venue: Vicarage Road
Arsenal's struggles on the road continued in the Premier League, after they suffered a 2-1 loss to Watford on Saturday evening.
It was a really tight game early on as both teams struggled to fashion any clear-cut scoring opportunities.
After 29 minutes, Mohamed Elneny tried his luck with powerful a drive from 25-yards out which flew just inches over the bar.
10 minutes later, Per Mertesacker broke the deadlock as he rose highest to head home Granit Xhaka's corner, 1-0.
The goal seemed to spur Arsenal on as both Xhaka and Hector Bellerin wasted opportunities to double Arsenals advantage.
Nevertheless, Arsenal took the lead into the halftime break.
Alex Iwobi looked to increase the lead as the attacker went through on goal but his shot was tipped over the crossbar by Heurelho Gomes in the 62nd minute.
Second-half substitute Mesut Ozil squandered a great opportunity to extend the lead, as the German's close range effort was saved by Gomes.
Watford were then awarded a penalty after Bellerin fouled Richarlison. Troy Deeney stepped to equalise for Watford after 71 minutes,1-1.
In the 83rd minute Etienne Capoue struck the post as his deflected shot had Petr Cech well beaten.
However, Tom Cleverley snatched the winner for Watford in stoppage time after a goal-mouth scramble to make it 2-1.
