English Premier League
Result: Arsenal 2-0 Watford
Date: 29 September 2018
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Arsenal clinched their fifth victory in a row in the Premier League after netting two late goals in a 2-0 win over Watford on Saturday afternoon. Watford started the better of the two teams, pressing the Gunners high up the pitch and making it uncomfortable for them to settle in the match. Alexandre Lacazette should have opened the scoring for Unai Emery's charges in the 16th minute after winning a ball off a defender, but struck wide with only goalkeeper Ben Foster to beat. Despite dominating possession after 35 minutes, Arsenal were not effective in the last third, hardly creating clear chances. The hosts were forced into a substitution on the stroke of halftime after veteran shot-stopper Petr Cech went down with a hamstring and was replaced by Bernd Leno. Arsenal were under pressure in the first ten minutes of the second stanza as the Hornets regained their energy of pressing high up the pitch. Andre Gray had a good opportunity to find the breakthrough for the visitors 20 minutes before time after going through on goal and instead of rounding Leno, he rushed his shot and missed the target. Arsenal eventually took the lead from fortunate circumstances nine minutes before time, as Alex Iwobi's cross at the near post took a deflection off Craig Cathcart and sailed into the net at Foster's near post. Mesut Ozil doubled the lead for the Gunners four minutes later as Lacazette turned provider to pick out the German, who calmly slotted home from six-yards to round off another win.
