Conte Shoots Down Spurs' Title Ambitions

Conte Shoots Down Spurs' Title Ambitions

Having failed to beat three of the traditional "big six" sides so far in the Premier League this season, Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has insisted that his men cannot be considered title contenders.

Mbappe's Main Issue With Neymar Revealed?

On Wednesday night, the Lilywhites went into their encounter against Manchester United boasting their best-ever start to an EPL season, and had the opportunity to close the gap on league leaders Arsenal to just one point.

Unfortunately for the north London side, though, they were unable to come away from Old Trafford as victors, losing the fixture 2-0.

In the games Conte's men have played against Chelsea, Arsenal and now United in this campaign, they have managed to attain only one point. Following the 2-0 defeat in Manchester, the Italian tactician admitted that they struggle in high-level matches and dismissed any notion that they could be title challengers this season.

"We have to be honest and say that United deserved to win. From the start they showed much more than us," Conte said, as per the Daily Mirror.

"I try to analyse after the game with my players because I like to be really honest and in this season we have struggled a lot every time we have played games at a high level, against Chelsea, Arsenal and United.

"It means we must continue to work and to improve ourselves and to see if it is enough to play at this high level.

"Sometimes I listen that we are title contenders. I think we need time.

"In only 10 months, 11 months, you can't go from ninth place to title contenders, especially when you finish 20 points less than the leaders in England."

Despite sitting third in the table, Tottenham have played one game more than United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City, meaning that their situation in the standings could change drastically if their rivals win their game in hand.
