Ten Hag To ‘Deal’ With Ronaldo After Early Old Trafford Exit

Ten Hag To ‘Deal’ With Ronaldo After Early Old Trafford Exit

Manager Erik ten Hag has said he will "deal" with Cristiano Ronaldo's behaviour after the Portugal captain was spotted walking down the tunnel before Manchester United's win over Tottenham Hotspur had reached full time.

Benzema Reveals 'Role' Ronaldo Played In Him Winning The Ballon d'Or

The Red Devils beat the Lilywhites 2-0 at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, in a performance many believe was the home side's best of the 2022/23 season.

Fred opened the scoring in the first half with a strike from outside the box that deflected in, while stand-in captain Bruno Fernandes doubled United's lead in the 69th minute to cap a promising team display.

Five-time Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo was only named among the substitutes, though, and was not called upon by Ten Hag, with cameras spotting him heading down the tunnel minutes before the match ended.

Speaking after the game, the Dutchman stated that the matter would be dealt with, but only on Thursday.

"I've seen him," he said, according to the Metro

"I didn't speak to him after. I'll deal with that tomorrow (Thursday)."

Ten Hag continued by explaining his decision to bench the 37-year-old.

"You pick the line-up that you think has the most chance to win, and you have a game plan," he said.

"Cristiano [Ronaldo] is an important player and he can make the goal, he will come on and can make the difference.

"I have to deal with all the players expectations, and I have to deal with developing this team. You have to make a game plan.

Ten Hag Sends Message To CR7 After Angry Sub Reaction

"This is a good Tottenham team, a compact, a transition team with high intensity, and I think this is the best way to start like this. You get more runs behind, more dynamic up front."

Ronaldo has scored just two goals in all competitions this season for United, with just one of them having come in the Premier League.
