DFB Pokal Report: Borussia Monchengladbach v Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund booked their place in the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal after edging Borussia Monchengladbach 1-0 on Tuesday evening.

Dortmund made only one change from their thumping win over Arminia Bielefield, as Thomas Delaney took the place of Giovanni Reyna.

Gladbach were getting the better chances in the early stages as Marcus Thuram came close in 17th minute with a strike inside the box that was saved by shot-stopper Marwin Hitz.

Stefan Lainer had a chance to break the deadlock for the hosts on the half-hour mark after he received a pass in the centre of the box from a set-piece situation but he guided his shot wide.

Erling Haaland had the best chance for the visitors six minutes later after receiving a through ball from Mats Hummels inside the box but his left-footed shot missed wide.

Thuram found the back of the net for Gladbach on the stroke of half-time after a through ball by Alassane Plea but the goal was disallowed for offside as the sides went to the break goalless.

The second stanza started at a frantic pace as Haaland thought he had given BVB the lead eight minutes from the break after dispatching a pass inside the bo but the goal was chalked off by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for a foul in the build-up.

Jadon Sancho eventually broke the deadlock for Edin Terzic's charges in the 66th minute with a snap-shot from the edge of the box after a through ball by Marco Reus from a quick counter-attack.

With Tthe game was opening up in the closing phase and,Hummels had a great chance to kill the game for Dortmund in the last six minutes after a rebound fell into his path but he struck his shot wide.

Mahmoud Dahoud got a second yellow card for a bad challenge and was sent off for BVB in stoppage time but the visitors held on in the end to book their spot in the semi-finals.
