Result: Borussia Dortmund 4-1 Werder Bremen

Date: 18 April 2021

Venue: Signal-Iduna-Park

Erling Haaland bagged a brace as Borussia Dortmund kept their Bundesliga top-four hopes alive with a 4-1 thrashing of Werder Bremen on Sunday afternoon.

Rising star Jude Bellingham and fellow front-men Marco Reus, Mahmoud Dahoud and Erling Braut Haaland set out the Black and Yellow' line-up.

After bowing out of the UEFA Champions League to Manchester City in midweek, the host trailed on 14 minutes through a smart finish from inside the box by Milot Rashica.

However, the host bounced back just before the halftime period and pulled themselves back level from a thumping strike from outside the area by Giovanni Reyna off a pass from Mateu Morey.

Dortmund went on to take the lead inside the closing quarter of the half through a penalty from Haaland after Reus drew a foul off Kevin Mohwald.

At the same time, Bremen issued a first half substitution as Roman Schmid replaced an injured Leonardo Bittencourt.

The Black and Yellow nabbed a third goal following the final seven minutes of the half after Haaland completed his brace with a stern left-footed finish from inside the area.

It could've been four for the host a little later when Bellingham closed in with a smart effort inside the six-yard area following a pass from Reyna, but he had his effort parried.

As the second half commenced, Bremen continued to hold their own despite trailing though could've staged a comeback through Davie Selke and Rashica.

Although, the Black and Yellow had a fourth in the final exchanges after a mistimed defensive clearance from Theodor Gebre Selassie landed into his own net.

In the end , Dortmund soaked up the closing seconds of the match to claim victory and go within four points off the top-four bracket.
