The Moroccan side announced this week that the South African coach would be leaving the club at the end of the season and is currently on 'special leave' for the remainder of the current campaign.
"The management office of Wydad Athletic Club announces, based on a request from first-team coach Rulani Mokwena, that he has been granted an exceptional leave starting after the team’s next match in the professional league," a club statement said.
Wydad spokesperson Mohamed Talal has revealed the latest developments surrounding Mokwena's future and departure from the club, Radio Mars reported.
“The club found a solution where, once the coach submitted the medical certificate, the management had no choice but to accept it," Talal told Radio Mars.
The spokesperson also revealed that Mokwena's departure will reportedly not cost the Red Castle a single cent.
"Rulani Mokwena’s departure from Wydad will not cost the club a single dirham," Talal added.
"But we asked the club president: what will you do if Mokwena turns on you? He said, ‘I’ll pay from my own pocket''
