Ahmed Yasser Rayan was part of the Red Devils squad during Pitso Mosimane's tenure in Egypt, and the striker revealed the details of his departure from the club, including conversations he held with the former Bafana Bafana coach, Cairo24 reported.
"Mosimane told me I was the third-choice striker, but I rejected that role," Rayan said.
"I asked him to give me a chance to play in two consecutive matches, and then judge me, but he replied that it would be difficult. So, I asked to go out on loan," Rayan added.
The striker, currently at Al Ahly Bank, went on loan to Ceramica Cleopatra and ended as the club's top scorer that season. He later received an opportunity to play abroad.
"I moved to Ceramica Cleopatra, where I became the league’s top scorer," Rayan said.
He added, "After participating in the Olympics, I received an offer to play professionally in Turkey. I contacted Al Ahly’s management and asked to leave, and I did experience playing abroad."
Upon his return to the Red Giant, Rayan trained under Ricardo Soares, and the Portuguese coach told him he would be part of the club's plans for the following season, but Ceramica Cleopatra moved to sign him permanently.
It was during his time with Cleopatra that he revealed Mosimane had been wrong about him.

"I met Mosimane again while I was at Ceramica Cleopatra, and he told me: ‘You were right after all’ – acknowledging that I deserved a bigger opportunity at the time," he said.
"I always saw myself as the second-choice striker behind Mohamed Sherif," Rayan concluded.
