Mamelodi Sundowns are believed to be keeping close tabs on Thabang Matuludi, with the Polokwane City defender emerging as a potential transfer target for the reigning Betway Premiership champions.
The 26-year-old right-back, who enjoyed a consistent spell with Rise and Shine before his recent injury setback, has been linked with big moves in the past, including reported interest from both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

Now, insiders suggest that Sundowns could be preparing to step into the race for his signature, with one source revealing: “Don’t be surprised if Thabang Matuludi ends up at Sundowns. That’s a real possibility, but nothing has been finalised at this stage.”
Meanwhile, part of the speculation about the possible move stems from the current uncertainty surrounding Khuliso Mudau.
The Bafana Bafana star has not featured for Sundowns this season after also missing their short pre-season camp in Rustenburg.
Reports indicate that Mudau is unhappy with his current situation, with a potential move abroad on the horizon.
The right-back is said to be pushing for the club to consider overseas offers following his standout performances at the FIFA Club World Cup earlier this year.
With Mudau’s exit a real possibility, Matuludi has been identified as a potential replacement option, given his reliability at right-back and ability to provide stability in both defensive and attacking phases of play.
Before his injury, Matuludi was one of Polokwane City’s most consistent performers. He missed just one league match in the 2023/24 season and earned a call-up to Helman Mkhalele’s COSAFA Cup squad last June.
Even during the disrupted campaign that followed, he featured in more than half of his club’s fixtures, re-affirming his importance to the side.

City are understood to be open to negotiating his departure should the right opportunity present itself, and with Sundowns always proactive in strengthening their squad, a move could materialise if the champions decide to act.
While Matuludi has also been tracked by Soweto giants in the past, and even attracted international attention – notably being monitored by former Pirates coach Jose Riveiro, now with Egyptian giants Al Ahly, a switch to Chloorkop could represent the biggest step of his career to date.
