A former Mamelodi Sundowns star could reportedly be on his way out of African football in favour of a new adventure in the Gulf region.

According to AfricaFoot, ex-Sundowns centre-back Abdelmounaim Boutouil has attracted interest from Emirati side Al Dhafra FC.
The Moroccan defender joined Wydad Athletic Club from the DStv Premiership champions ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. However, it appears that after just one season with the North African giants, he could be set for a move to the United Arab Emirates.
The transfer is, however, subject to Wydad agreeing to a deal, as the 27-year-old was an ever-present figure under both Rulani Mokwena and Mohamed Amine Benhachem last season.
The same report claims that initial contact was made through Boutouil’s representative, who conveyed Al Dhafra’s verbal interest to Wydad's management. However, the record Botola Pro Inwi champions are reportedly only willing to consider written offers.
It is believed that the Casablanca outfit are seeking strict financial guarantees for the physically imposing defender. Al Dhafra, on the other hand, are said to be in the market for a powerful centre-back and view Boutouil as a strong candidate—not only due to his profile but also because of his wealth of experience in African football.

In addition to Wydad and Sundowns, Boutouil has represented AS FAR Rabat, SCC Mohammedia, and Raja Casablanca. His only club outside of Africa to date was Belgian outfit Union Saint-Gilloise, but if Al Dhafra get their way, they could become his second overseas destination in the near future.
