The Red Castle secured their second successive league victory since Rulani Mokwena was placed on special leave.
This past weekend, they defeated AS FAR Rabat 2–1 courtesy of a Thembinkosi Lorch winner, and it was another pair of players who once donned the famous yellow of Sundowns that earned them a 2–0 win over JS Soualem.
First, it was Cassius Mailula who found the back of the net for the three-time African champions, netting the opener in the 26th minute as he took his tally to 10 goal contributions in the top flight this season.
Abdelmounaim Boutouil doubled the team’s lead in the 78th minute as Wydad won back-to-back matches in the Botola Pro Inwi for the first time since mid-February.
Those wins over Hassania d'Agadir and SC Chabab Mohammedia earlier this year were followed by a run of five successive draws in the league—results which contributed to Mokwena and Wydad deciding to part ways at the end of the season.
Now, Mohamed Amine Benhachem has taken the reins and will be in charge of the club until the FIFA Club World Cup. He has started his interim reign with consecutive wins.

If Wydad are to usurp AS FAR for second place in the standings—and with it, the final Champions League position—they will need the team from the nation's capital to lose, and will also need to win by at least five goals, as there is currently a five-goal difference between the two sides.
