After Lorch & Mailula, Wydad Coach 'Identifies' New Target

After Lorch & Mailula, Wydad Coach 'Identifies' New Target

Wydad Athletic Club are reportedly looking to add a centre back before the FIFA Club World Cup.

After reports suggested that Wydad Athletic Club’s new coach wants to retain the services of Cassius Mailula and Thembinkosi Lorch on a permanent basis, it has now emerged that the Moroccan side is also seeking further reinforcements.

Despite the aforementioned South African duo being brought in by former boss Rulani Mokwena, the Red Castle remain strong admirers of both players. Earlier this week, it was reported that the Moroccan giants are eager to secure the duo permanently, following their loan stints from Mamelodi Sundowns and Toronto FC, respectively.

Both players have made significant impacts at the club, with Lorch scoring the winner this past weekend in their 2-1 victory over AS FAR Rabat in the Botola Pro Inwi.

While the club attempts to trigger the purchase clauses in each player’s respective loan deal, the record Moroccan champions are also looking to strengthen the squad ahead of the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.

One of the key positions they aim to reinforce is central defence, and according to WinWin, the player they are targeting for that role is FUS Rabat star Yahya Benkhaleq.

The 23-year-old has been an ever-present figure in Said Chiba’s side this season, and the Casablanca-based outfit are now looking to bring him in before their trip to the United States of America.

The same report claims that Wydad president Hicham Ait Menna is in talks with FUS president Saad Benouhoud to determine what it would take to sign Benkhaleq, as they seek approval from the club before making a formal approach.
