Salah's Agent Slams AFCON Critics, 'Takes Names'

The ex-Chelsea and Roma player headed back to England this week after sustaining a hamstring injury in his nation's second group game at the continental showpiece, a move that has earned him strong criticism from sections of the Egyptian media.

The Pharaohs will take on DR Congo in the round of 16 of the tournament this weekend, and there remains hope that their potential progression could see Salah return to the Ivory Coast should he recover in time.

His agent, Ramy Abbas, believes his client's critics have attempted to gain popularity on what has happened, and warned he has noted who has taken issue with Salah's decision to return to England and who has supported him.

"The same individuals and 'influencers' who get weak in the knees when they happen to bump into Mohamed in person and beg for 'follows' or selfies, tried to capitalise on an unfortunate injury and questioned Mohamed's commitment to his country," he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

"They did this looking for fame, clicks and 'likes'. I want to thank those who did the honourable thing and pointed out how ridiculous and cheap that was. I took names. In both cases.

"Most importantly, to the vast majority of you, who support Mohamed, my message to you is not to worry, because your global icon, the one you helped create, is already too big to be brought down by social media. No hyperventilating or foaming-in-the-mouth 'influencer' is going to change that."
