According to the Daily Star, 25-year-old Al Ahly midfielder Emam Ashour has been ruled out of Egypt's upcoming round of 16 clash against DR Congo after sustaining an injury in training.
The publication reports that the player, who has been a regular at the tournament so far, has been placed under medical observation after landing on his head attempting a backflip.
It is said he celebrated wildly following a goal he scored, but was taken to hospital for examination moments after injuring his head on Wednesday.
This is another significant blow for the team following Mohamed Salah's return to Liverpool in England, with the 31-year-old sidelined with a hamstring issue and only likely to head back to the Ivory Coast if his national team makes it to the latter stages of the competition.
Speaking earlier this week, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp defended the player's decision to be treated by the Reds' medical staff and insisted Salah remains incredibly loyal to his country.
Ashour, if reports are to be believed, will miss the Pharaohs' last 16 encounter on Sunday.
