Nabi: I Take Full Responsibility, Downs Are A Big Team

Talking to journalists in a post-match press conference, the Tunisian-born mentor said that his charges were nervous in the opening minutes of the game, which led to conceding early. Nabi said that while one might blame the youngsters, he believes that if they were surrounded by good, experienced players, they would then perform better.

"Sundowns are a big team that has experience not only locally but in the African continent as well. It is true that Sundowns are a very good team but we believe that with a lot of experience (added to Amakhosi then) we can also do well," Nabi told the media.

"But we believe that our young players can learn if they play more and sometimes they make mistakes but it doesn't make sense if you play against a big club in a big atmosphere and you get scared. It is with such games that the youngsters will grow and improve. We chose a way of playing because of the kind of players we have there. They can show their technical ability and they are there when we need them. But those young players need experienced players to help them to grow and that's the area we need to work on in the future and bring in experienced players who will work well with these young players to improve not only the young players but the team as well."

Nabi then stated that he takes all the blame for the team's loss to Sundowns on Saturday.

"It's true the team didn't play very well but as a coach I take full responsibility for the result today. I can't sit here in front of the media and blame my players but I will sit down with them and look at where we didn't do things well for us to play the way we did against Sundowns. It was not good and I take full responsibility," Nabi told journalists.

Amakhosi's next game is against Richards Bay in the league on 27 November after the long FIFA break and Carling Knockout semi-finals, which they are not part of.

As Chiefs prepare for their upcoming match against Richards Bay, coach Nabi's focus on integrating experienced players to support the youngsters highlights the team's hope for improvement for the rest of the campaign.
