The 29-year-old broke into Chiefs' senior set-up in 2004, and has been one of Amakhosi's pillars of strength since his introduction to the first team.
Despite some controversial moments, most of the club's fans have an unconditional love for Khune, although one day he will have to give way to a younger and more energetic goalkeeper.
Of course, Khune is still very much in his prime, and is likely to continue in goal for Chiefs for years to come, but we thought it was necessary to look at players the PSL giants could replace him with in the future.
Brylon Petersen and Bruce Bvuma will definitely be among the candidates, based on the fact they are both already at Chiefs, and have impressed spectators.
After his debut last month, Bvuma was congratulated by Khune in a social media post, while Brilliant Khuzwayo has also acknowledged the 22-year-old as Chiefs' future shot-stopper.
Ajax Cape Town duo Jody February and Brandon Petersen could also possibly be targeted by Chiefs in the future, and it would be difficult for either goalkeeper to turn a move to Amakhosi down.
Lastly, SuperSport United's Ronwen Williams is perhaps an outside candidate as he already has many years of experience in South Africa's top division.
Who would you like to see succeed Khune at Chiefs one day?
