Pitso Hits Back: 'I'm Not A Small Coach'

Pitso Mosimane has once again asserted his authority as a seasoned and accomplished coach, this time amidst growing scrutiny over his recruitment decisions at Esteghlal FC.

The South African tactician, who has enjoyed success across Africa and the Middle East, responded with clear conviction when questioned by the media regarding both his team's recent eight-day training camp following a break and his choices in the January transfer window.

At 60 years old, Mosimane has proven himself as one of the most respected coaches in African football, having won major titles with clubs like Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly. Yet, despite his extensive experience, some have raised concerns about his decisions at Esteghlal, particularly with regard to the club's transfer strategy. The veteran coach, however, was quick to shut down any doubts about his professionalism and approach.

"I met all the big bosses and I have constant meetings with them. I also met the CEO because it's time for transfers. We cannot stay away. I've given the list of players that I think should come," Mosimane explained, visibly frustrated by the questioning.

"I did not give the list now and it hasn't changed since I submitted it. I've done my part, I've given the names, the CEO says he will support me with the process. I am positive and I believe they will support me because it's not for me, it's for Esteghlal."

Mosimane made it clear that his focus is not on personal glory but on the success of Esteghlal, a club with a rich history in Iranian football. He further clarified that his recruitment strategy is grounded in a thorough understanding of the squad's needs, based on weeks of watching and analyzing players.

"I am waiting, let's see. I've done a list of where we are short, where we have players, and where we can strengthen the team. I did my job and I gave my list to the past CEO three months ago and it has never changed."

The coach's frustration was palpable as he reiterated his professionalism and expertise, dismissing any suggestion that he lacked control over the situation.

"I am professional and I know what to do. I'm a serious coach, I'm not a small coach! I've done my work and if the team supports, Praise to God. I expect the team to support."

Mosimane also provided insight into the specificity of his recruitment plans, confirming that his list includes Iranian players, as he and his coaching staff have been monitoring the domestic league closely.

"My list has Iranian players because we have checked. We watch games every week. We are not drinking coffee. We know the Iranian players and we have given a list of Iranian players," he stated.

As one of Africa's most decorated coaches, Mosimane's credibility is not in question. His success at Al Ahly, where he won multiple CAF Champions League titles, speaks for itself. Now, in his role at Esteghlal, he remains resolute in his mission to strengthen the team and lead them to success on the continental stage.
