With Teko Modise being the main playmaker at the club, and having first preference in that position, we could face a serious selection headache in that department should Modise, for whatever reason, is unable to play.
Here are a few names who could pose a problem for the Downs technical staff.
The diminutive player emerged predominantly in the closing stages of the current Premier Soccer League season and showed many signs of promise. Whether used as a wide or central player, Tau has shown he has the talent to do the job and it remains to be seen if he would be the one to take over from Teko.
Zwane’s most accustomed position is just behind the strikers and he is a suitable candidate as back-up to Modise. Liked Tau, Zwane can be used out wide and is a player capable of pulling the strings like The Navigator.
This may come as a surprise to many but Mbatha has been getting the nod in the team as a substitute more frequently in recent times. As skillful as a Downs player should be, he would no doubt put his hand up in being a player to fill in for Modise.
Let’s not forget about Dolly. He will be linking up with his former team next season and will add depth to the squad in that department. The Absa Premiership Young Player of the Season is a versatile acquisition with many believing he is best suited as a number 10.
Who would you choose as a Modise replacement should he fall victim to injury?
