It has been reported that Orlando Pirates have beaten Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs for the signature of Justice Chabalala, but have they overpaid for his services?
According to the Siya Crew, a R6 million price tag was slapped on the in-demand defender and that proved to be a stumbling block in Chiefs’ ability to sign the Free State Stars man.
For Pirates, however, splashing cash hasn’t proven to be a setback for them, as they have made some impressive signings over the course of the transfer window so far.
According to Transfermarkt, Chabalala’s market value sits at a relatively low R1.7 million, and if the asking price is deemed to be true, Dr Irvin Khoza could have overpaid for his services by R4.3 million.
That is a staggering amount of money to let go of so easily, particularly given that Pirates have already reinforced at the back ahead of this season.
Do you think Pirates may have made a mistake signing Chabalala if they paid that fee?
