After Kaizer Chiefs thrashed EDU Sports 4-0 in the Nedbank Cup this weekend, Amakhosi have every right to feel optimistic going into the second half of the season. Yes, we may have drawn and lost one game prior to the Nedbank Cup win on the weekend, be we can be sure things will be on the up from here on in - and here’s why.
New Striking Combinations
The much talked about Siphelele Mthembu hat trick has got social media buzzing, with our fans absolutely delighted for Shaka Zulu. Also, Katlego Mphela enjoyed much needed game time and got a goal to mark his return to first team action. Apart from David Zulu being touted to become Chiefs' number one striker, Shaka Zulu and Mphela will add attacking options for coach Stuart Baxter upfront.
Defence Looking Better
A goal fest accompanied by a clean sheet is always welcome. With Morgan Gould marshalling the defence, Chiefs never looked troubled in the tie and this has been an encouraging sign following the two goals conceded against SuperSport United in the previous fixture.
A Back Four Defence Is Our Style
Against SSU, coach Stuart Baxter surprised many by changing the system as a whole by starting the tie using a 3-5-2 formation. This proved to be a wakeup call for Baxter, as once he reverted back to the regular four man backline, Chiefs looked solid in defence.
Having said that, will we kick-start our season from here on?
