There has been lots of talk in the media surrounding the future of our coach Stuart Baxter. As a favourite amongst the Amakhosi fans, the vast majority of the supporters want him to stay. Realistically though, there will always be the possibility of him leaving should he be unsuccessful in terms of silverware this season.
I feel that the last thing we need right now is for Baxter to leave, because in the he last couple of seasons he has laid solid foundations for the club to work on going forward.
He tasted league success in his first season in charge at the club and won over the hearts of the fans. In his second season in charge, he tasted defeat in the Absa Premiership, narrowly losing out to Mamelodi Sundowns in the league title race.
In essence then, he has tasted both sweet victory and bitter defeat in his three years at the club, and that can only bode well with future aspirations. Baxter looks comfortable at Chiefs, the players are drawn to him and in terms of man management, he helped many stars reach their full potential because of his inspiration.
Looking at the situation retrospectively, if he leaves not only will the camp be disrupted, but the blueprints he used to modify Chiefs' style of play will all but be discarded.
The club should keep Baxter at the helm for as long as possible, not just for the fans' sake, but because of the potential he has in turning Chiefs into an even bigger brand. Let’s face it, we are not doing too badly at this moment in time and I think talks of him leaving are just a rush of blood to the head.
Is Baxter just too important to Chiefs at this moment in time?
