We take a look at our five remaining sides in the top 10 teams of 2014 which has been decided by FIFA Ranking Points.
5. BENFICA – 11,177 FIFA POINTS
Benfica won a historic treble in Portugal this year taking the league, Taca de Portugal and Taca da Liga by storm. Not only did they dominate on the home front, they came within a penalty shootout of bringing the Europa League back to Lisbon. It was the only tournament that they didn't win and they've carried their impressive form into the beginning of this season too as they once again top the Primeira Liga at Christmas bringing their 2014 league points tally to 78.
4. BARCELONA – 14,422 FIFA POINTS
2014 has not been a year to remember for Barcelona although it says a lot about the club for them to have had a bad year by their standards and still be the fourth best team in the world over the last 12 months! They won no silverware in the calendar year for the first time since 2007 but still came second in the league and cup.
3. ATLETICO MADRID – 14,705 FIFA POINTS
2014 was an unprecedented year of success for Atletico as they won their first league title in over two decades and went all the way to the Champions League final. They accumulated 81 points in the calendar year as they continue to stay in the mixer for the La Liga title this season too.
2. BAYERN MUNICH – 14,813 FIFA POINTS
Bayern Munich's domination of German football continued in 2014 as they racked up 89 league points across the calendar year. They made it all the way to the semi-finals of the Champions League as well as doing a league and cup double.
1. REAL MADRID – 20,082 FIFA POINTS
When Cristiano Ronaldo has the best calendar year of his career, his team are understandably going to follow suit. Although they missed out on any league glory, they won both the Champions League and Copa Del Rey. Just a few days ago they added to their success of the last 12 months by bringing home the Club World Cup and their performance in the league since August has been out of this world.
