As we know by now, Ajax Cape Town were crowned MTN8 champions this past weekend after an exciting 1-0 victory over former cup holders Kaizer Chiefs. Amakhosi were bossed on the park for a large portion of the game and that by a team with an average age of just about 23.
With the weekend's result in mind, here are three players Chiefs should have a look at, especially after their performances against Amakhosi in the final.
Abbubaker Mobara
Mobara had a great 90 minutes and was virtually untroubled throughout the match. At 21, the versatile defender plays the game well beyond his years and is one of the best young players in the country at the moment. Before the game, Chiefs winger George Lebese was the talk of the town, but in the MTN8 final, Mobara made sure Lebese could not get beyond him. As an investment for the future, Mobara is certainly a gem in South African football.
Cecil Lolo
The right back was superb and very much dominated the right flank throughout the 90 minutes. Many fans even took to social media after the game in suggesting Lolo is among the most underrated players in the PSL and never gets the plaudits he deserves. With Siboniso Gaxa going into the latter stages of his career, Lolo at right back could be seen as the perfect replacement.
Ndiviwe Mdabuka
It's hard to believe that, about seven weeks ago, Mdabuka was playing football in the National First Division and is now a cup winner in the PSL. He has everything required of a well-rounded midfielder and is a great prospect for the future. He has energy, grit, determination, passing ability and a goalscoring touch, much like that of a young Reneilwe Letsholonyane. Perhaps, with Yeye also heading into his mid-thirties, Chiefs could look at Mdabuka as a replacement.
