The story

Ex-Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns fullback Siboniso 'Pa' Gaxa reflected on his financial savviness at the start of his professional career.

Gaxa, who recently obtained his LLB degree from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), sat down with Thabiso Mosia on Radio 2000 to speak about his life after football, ranging from his studies to business ventures.

The 54-capped Bafana Bafana international spoke candidly about the property investments he made earlier in his playing career, taking advice from his coach at SuperSport United, the decorated Pitso Mosimane.

Gaxa was coached almost entirely by Pitso during his period at Matsatsantsa from 2002 until 2008 and for a brief period with Bafana, seeing the two maintaining a solid relationship till this day.

The 41-year-old shared how enjoys taking advice from people and how 'Jingles' used to guide him on what investments to make.

"When I was playing, I bought properties and I bought them cash, I don't know why. I take good advice, you can just come up with a number of nonsense things but I would just take one piece and say, 'This can work for me, I'm going to take this and use if for myself'," noted Gaxa, adding:

"So, coach Pitso used to assist me with this thing [investments] He used to tell me what's right, wrong and what needs to be done. I decided to listen to him. So, I bought a few properties and at some point I had five and most of them were paid off.

"In the past two or three years, I've sold two [properties] so that it can cover me while I was studying, so at least I have two more under my name, which is good. I invested money because I wanted to live longer and live a comfortable life," concluded Pa.
