Osimhen Accused Of Sabotaging Nigerian National Team

Osimhen Accused Of Sabotaging Nigerian National Team

A Nigerian legend has called for action to be taken against Super Eagles and Napoli star Victor Osimhen for sabotaging the national team.

Official: Ghana's World Cup Squad Named, Pirates Star Snubbed

The Napoli star was one of the Nigerian contingent who are based in Europe that were called up by coach Jose Peseiro for the west African's encounter against Portugal at the Jose Alvalade Stadium on Thursday.

However, on Monday, the Nigerian Football Federation released a statement which confirmed the forward's withdrawal from the squad and that he would be replaced by Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers. This comes off the back of Osimhen completing 90 minutes against Udinese this past weekend.

The latest development has caught the attention of the 1996 Olympic gold medal-winning Mobi Oparaku, who has demanded action to be taken against the player.

"This is sabotage. He wasn't injured, I saw him at the weekend and he was not substituted due to injury," Oparaku, who featured for Nigeria during the 1998 World Cup told Brila FM.

"Because it's a friendly and we are not going to the World Cup he has come out to say he is not playing. This is sabotage he should be sanctioned."

In September, Osimhen was called up for the friendly against Algeria but was later ruled out due to injury. With the Lagos native out injured, fans will have to wait for January 4 to witness his return to action when Napoli take on Inter Milan in a Serie A fixture at the San Siro Stadium.
