The Siya crew recently caught up with former Mamelodi Sundowns defender, Themba Mnguni, who admitted that there are defenders in the PSL that play at a "poor" standard due to their lack of international exposure.
In an exclusive Supporters Club interview, we discussed the impact of captain Alje Schut, who is set to earn a new contract with the Brazilians, as well as the standard of local defenders in the league at present.
In one of the questions, the Siya crew asked whether the standard of local defenders had an impact on clubs looking to Europe for players.
"Some of them are poor. It's just unfortunate they are not exposed internationally early enough in junior national teams and are therefore not noticed by European teams," he said.
However, Mnguni also feels that there are many who stand out and could make a name for themselves abroad.
"Make no mistake – we have quality defenders in Mzansi. Many of them can even make it in Europe, given the chance."
