Former AmaZulu FC midfielder Samuel Darpoh has broken silence on what led to his departure at the club.
Before the Zungus took over at Usuthu, Darpoh was one of the most important players at the club but after the arrival of coach Benni McCarthy, the player was a regular in the stands.
Now as he plays for ABC Motsepe side Summerfield Dynamos, the midfielder has shared what led to his departure and spoken about his relationship with former Usuthu coach, McCarthy.
"To be honest, as I said it was just game-time. In football, you have coaches that do not believe in you and I guess that was an issue. I decided to leave because of game-time. It was nothing personal because I didnt have any issues with the coach and the owners of the club," Darpoh told the Siya crew.
"AmaZulu FC are everything to me. They took me from nowhere and made me a better person. I just left because of not getting game-time. I never had personal or one on one conversation with coach Benni McCarthy. For a season I didn't get a chance and I thought maybe I should leave and coach Clinton Larsen came and saved me.
"The change of ownership affected older players at the club but I wouldn't say it was a reason I wasn't getting game-time. The coach decides on which players he wants, so it was nothing to do with the club's owners."
Darpoh says he wouldn't mind to return to Usuthu as he feels the club did a lot for him as a player and if an opportunity avails itself, he would definitely return.
"Yes, I would like to return to AmaZulu FC at some point. I love that club, anything can happen in football and if they come, well I will definitely accept."
